This is Fizz, my family's gun dog. She's what's known as a retriever. Though other breeds routinely retrieve game (birds hunted for sport or food), a defining characteristic of a retriever is what's known as "nonslip retrieval". Thus, retrievers are bred for soft mouths and a great willingness to please, learn, and obey. Which reminds me of something different entirely.
This is a familiar scene back home—basically the polar opposite of life in Tokyo, or any other major city, for that matter. I suppose a vegetarian reading my blog might be upset at the above shot, but consider the fact that these birds were flying free just moments before (they were blasted out of the sky). Quite a different life to the packaged, featherless, boneless, over bred chickens currently lining your nearest Tesco superstore.
